At Starr D Ranch Horse Sanctuary, our commitment is to provide a second lease on life to The Magnificent 7 Crew.
These horses endured neglect, starvation, and abuse at the hands of their previous owners—
until they were discarded into a kill pen, their fate set for slaughter in Mexico.

Every day, in the dark of early morning, and as the sun rises and sets over Starr D Ranch, our horses eagerly wait for their meals—meals that quite literally keep them alive. These aren’t just any horses. They are 7 rescues, 3 of which are special needs seniors who, without this sanctuary, wouldn’t have anywhere else to go.

Caring for them isn’t cheap, and it’s not because we splurge—it’s because we refuse to cut corners on their health. Top quality feed as well as Bermuda and alfalfa hay, and carefully selected supplements ensure they thrive, not just survive.

Feed Cost:

$32 for a 50 lb bag of Unbeetable Complete alone. One bag. One day. That’s before hay and supplements.

$22 for a 50 lb bag of Alfa Pro Elite. Mainly for Oona as she cannot eat hay from a bale due to her back teeth. This is also what we give as a snack for Oona and Halo between meals as well as "departing barn treats" for all.

$18 for a 50 lb bag of Southern Star Feeds alfalfa cubes. This is for Halo since she needs her roughage soaked and drained as she has a history of laminitis.This alfalfa is excellent and consistent in quality.
Bermuda Hay:
